2004 iNEER
AWARDS: PROCESS, CRITERIA AND FORMAT
iNEER Awards
Providing that high quality nominations are received, the iNEER Board makes a number of awards each year to recognize individuals for their contributions to advancing international understanding and cooperation in engineering education and research. Awards are based on nominations by members of iNEER and are reviewed by an international committee appointed by the Board.
There are three categories of awards: (1) Leadership Award; (2) Achievement Award; and (3) Recognition Award. In any particular year iNEER reserves the right to make more than one award in each category, or no award.
Awards are in the form of engraved plaques. Citations on past awards may be viewed by clicking on the item of interest on the iNEER website at: http://www.ineer.org/Awards/Welcome.htm. Scenes from the presentation of awards at ICEE-2003 in Valencia, Spain may be seen from the photo gallery at: http://www.ineer.org/Photo/2003ICEE5/P036.jpg, and photos from the award presentations held at ICEE-2002 in Manchester, England in August, 2002 may be viewed in the photo gallery posted at: http://www.ineer.org/Photo/2002ICEE/Photo.htm.
Awards are presented at a scheduled iNEER event. Award recipients must be present in person to receive the awards. The 2004 awards will be at the iCEER-2004 conference scheduled for June 27-30, 2004 and/or at ICEE-2004 planned for October 16-21, 2004. Information on the conference programs may be obtained at: http://www.fs.vsb.cz/akce/2004/iceer/Main.htm and http://www.succeed.ufl.edu/icee/, respectively.
Nominations may be submitted upon solicitation by the iNEER Secretariat. Any member of the iNEER community is eligible to nominate any member. All nominations must be submitted to the iNEER Secretary-General by the due date specified in the solicitation.

iNEER Award Selection
Criteria
Nominations are
evaluated by the Awards Committee comprised of international experts in
engineering education. Awards recommendations are forwarded to the iNEER Board
which makes the final decision.
The Leadership category
is the highest honor, followed by the other two in order. All are aimed at recognizing individuals for
extraordinary contributions to international cooperation in research and
education. Nominees must be individuals whose tangible innovative contributions
(as opposed to simply being someone in a position involved with international
cooperation, as an example) in international cooperation are instrumental in
creating new bridges between and among nations where none existed before.
If given an award, the
awardee must be present (as a regular attendee that pays all fees) at the iNEER
event where the award will be presented.
Broadly defined criteria and guidelines for selection of each award are given below.
Leadership Award
This award is given to an individual or individuals for visionary leadership, significant innovations and broad and long-lasting, positive impact on international engineering education and research. The ideas and/or work for which such a leader is recognized with this award will be of an over-arching nature with global impact.
Achievement Award
This award is given to an individual or individuals for innovations and exemplary, sustained, superior accomplishments in promoting international cooperation in engineering education that benefit a number of institutions in several regions of the world.
Recognition Award
This award recognizes an individual or individuals for innovations and sustained, dedicated and exemplary contributions to international cooperation in engineering education and research that have led to close interaction between institutions in two or more nations.
