Session Description:
Universities around the world play an important role not only in
research but also in developing new technologies. How to bring such research
results and new technology developed to the marketplace takes innovative
approaches. A quick and effective way to bring university-developed new
technologies to commercial marketplace is for the inventors/developers of the
technologies-faculty members-to start up a new company to commercialize the
products of their invention/ development. Other effective approaches include
setting up industrial consortiums on special technologies, and private
foundations to encourage applied research and technology transfer. Five
accomplished educators/inventors with extensive experience in commercializing
university technologies will share their personal experience and lessons
learned. The session should be of interest to educators and inventors around the
world who wish to market their inventions, and to individuals and officials
dealing with university-generated inventions.
