Stephen Gale is the HATCH Projects Leader in Sustainability, based in Sydney. His role is in developing and delivering the tools and systems to allow Hatch and client teams to apply sustainability principles in their work. Stephen has a strong track record in sustainability consulting, project management and design management. For the last 6 years he has been developing and delivering sustainable systems and solutions to industrial clients.
Stephen is a Supervising Engineer with 12 years experience in industry. His projects include the auditing of energy efficiency and GHG emissions and establishment of targets/methods to achieve World’s Best Practice with some of the regions largest CO2 emitters. Stephen has developed CO2 trading and neutrality protocols and has represented Industry in formal GHG policy negotiations. Stephen has been involved in many energy and materials use efficiency projects within industry.
Stephen has also assisted clients to develop market-positioning strategies. This has involved modelling competitors businesses and emissions and making recommendations for strategic positioning. Stephen has combined his practical industry and management experience to create sustainability management systems. These have been integrated into the existing quality systems and included all the tools, procedures, policy and training necessary to undertake a business sustainability change process. Past projects include development of an innovative waste recycling scheme for Resource NSW; creation of the first regional voluntary carbon inventory and offset scheme; Australian agent for the marketing of the CemStar technology; and FutureWatch risk reviews for several major Greenfield steel plants. Stephen has been invited to present on his experiences in Waste Recycling in New Zealand and on the benefits of the CemStar technology to the SEAISI in Bangkok.
Stephen developed and deployed the SOHO, FutureWatch, PEIEC, CSR Procurement, Sustainable Procurement, Corporate Sustainability KPI’s, Sustainable Staff Incentive and SPDG tools. Stephen is skilled with LCA and is accredited to use the BL3 tool. Stephen founded the Hatch Green Committees and manages the annual reporting on SD targets.
