I am sending this e-mail summarizing some of thoughts on ICEE. Based on my participation in ICEE 98, 99 and 00, and on the steering committee meeting this year, I want to make the following suggestions.
Consistent with the reality that we need to encourage minority and women participation in engineering education, the steering committee should recruit some women members.
Given that India and PROC produce large number of engineers, we need their active participation at ICEE. We, as members of the steering committee, should try to encourage their participation including holding a future ICEE possibly in India.
Instead of holding so many parallel sessions, it may be a good idea to hold some poster sessions. It would be very easy to hold poster sessions around various meals that we organize. Holding so many parallel sessions do not do us any good: (1) Some of the talks we want to go to are at the same time and (2) the number of participants in some sessions is very low.
Industry should be an important participant at ICEE for various reasons: (1) they are the receivers of the product that we talk about at ICEE; (2) we need their view point properly covered and (3) their participation is needed so that they are aware about their own responsibility for engineering education.
I like ICEE and look forward to attending the Norway meeting.
With compliments,
